Before dental school, Dr. Naysan earned a Bachelor of Science in gerontology, the study of aging, from the University of Southern California.

A great deal of what brings patients to a cosmetic dentist is not a single damaged tooth. It is enamel that has thinned, edges that have worn flat, a bite that has quietly lost vertical height over three decades, a lower face that has shortened as a result. Patients rarely describe it that way. They say they look tired, or older than they feel.

Studying aging before studying teeth changes how that presentation reads. It frames a worn dentition as a process with a history and a trajectory, rather than as a cosmetic complaint to be covered. It is also why Dr. Naysan tends to spend the first appointment asking what a patient's teeth looked like fifteen years ago — and what they are likely to look like in fifteen more if nothing changes.

He returned to USC for dental school, earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry.

Aesthetic dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty, which means the discipline is built almost entirely on continuing education rather than residency. Bedford Dental Group was founded in 1991 by Dr. Mehdi Nayssan, who trained at New York University College of Dentistry and completed UCLA's TMJ and facial pain program before establishing the practice on Bedford Drive.

Dr. Daniel Naysan joined in 2006 and is now co-owner and lead cosmetic dentist. The practice today is multi-specialty, with prosthodontics, periodontics, and oral surgery in-house — which matters more than it sounds. Complex aesthetic cases are rarely purely aesthetic. A full-mouth case may need periodontal work before a single restoration is placed. Having those disciplines under one roof means the treatment sequence is planned as one plan rather than negotiated between offices.

Practicing in Beverly Hills carries a particular set of expectations, and Dr. Naysan's patient roster has included entertainers, athletes, and public figures. He has been consistent about what that does and does not mean: the discretion and scheduling flexibility are real, but the clinical standard is not a tier. In Practice

i.Diagnosis before design. Before any aesthetic plan, the underlying mechanics get evaluated — bite, wear pattern, joint function, periodontal health. Aesthetic work built on an unstable foundation is aesthetic work that fails.
ii.Conservative by default. Enamel does not grow back. Where a conservative option delivers the result, it is the option — presented first, not offered as a downgrade after the comprehensive plan.
iii.Restraint as an aesthetic goal. The most common request he hears is for a result no one notices as dental work — designed to a patient's face, age, and existing features, not a single standard.
iv.Planning for twenty years. A smile is not static — teeth wear, gums recede, and the lower face changes shape over decades. Material selection and how much tooth structure to preserve are decided against how a patient will look at sixty-five, not only how they look today.

Outside the operatory.

Dr. Naysan speaks English, Spanish, and Farsi — in a practice drawing international patients, this is a practical asset as much as a biographical note: consent conversations and treatment planning go better in a patient's first language.
